About the Artist
Sharon was born in LaPorte, Indiana but spent
most of her time growing up in St. Joseph, Michigan, and relocated with her family
to Ludington about twenty years ago. She has studied under numerous artists such
as local artisan Lois Scott who teaches drawing, pastel, oil, and acrylic, and with
Master, European artist Burt Perti. She has also studied at West Shore Community
College under Dave Rozelle and Cheri Petri.
Sharon's
work is showcased in Majestic Art Gallery located at 115 S. James St., Ludington,
Michigan, She has exhibited at West Shore Community College, has exhibited at the
Muskegon Museum of Art and exhibited at the Methodist Church for the Arts in Grand
Rapids Michigan. She is a member of the Benzie County
Chamber of Commerce, the Ludington Chamber of Commerce, and The Michigan Guild of Artists and Artisans.
From
a very young age she has needed to express her artistic talent in various mediums
and ways, from acting and singing to sculpting and painting. She has a wonderful
sense of color and form which comes from her spirituality and deep belief in God.
Although Sharon can paint realistically, she prefers to paint from her imagination;
many of her paintings have a dreamlike quality. Spending time with her granddaughter
in the majesty of nature is a favorite pastime, such as walking in the woods while
seeing dragonflies and making up stories of mystical fairies, leprechauns and all
wondrous things.
Sharon
says,
"Some paintings are just for fun
and some are just because, but I have a lot of paintings already created in my mind
that are for a purpose. I strongly believe that God is the greatest artist of all
and I feel any talent I posses is a special gift from Him. I hope my creations on
canvas can touch the hearts of people in a meaningful way."
